Badger 5th graders celebrate D.A.R.E graduation

Badger 5th graders celebrated their D.A.R.E. graduation on May 9th.  Officer Kevin Becker lead the 5th graders through the D.A.R. E. program in 12 different sessions from January through April.  D.A.R.E. stands for “Drug Abuse Resistance Education”.  In that time officer Becker covered a wide range of topics such as what drug abuse is and how it affects your body and mind, resistance strategies, identifying one’s support circle, signs of stress in self and others, etc.  After the 12 weeks of instruction all participating students were asked to write an essay summarizing what they had learned and how they would use that information in upcoming years.  Five essays were chosen by officer Becker and Sheriff Gust to be read at the D.A.R.E graduation.  Laurel Andol, Emma Ann VonEnde,  Morgan Praska, Kiana Jacobson, and Emma Gust did a beautiful job of reading their essays at the graduation.  Emma Gust received a medal for writing the most thoughtful and thought provoking essay.  Colten Gust won the drawing for the D.A.R.E. mascot “Daren” the lion.  A special thank you is extended to the following businesses for the gifts they donated to the D.A.R.E. graduates:  Border State Bank of Badger, Twin’s Café, Badger Cenex station, and KC’s Country Market.  Their generosity and support is greatly appreciated.
