Daisy Louise Hendrickson Salmonson went home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 8th, 2014 at the age of 88.
Daisy was born on March 8th, 1925 in Big River, Saskatchewan to Richard and Ruth (Viktorsson) Hendrickson. She attended 4 different schools in Canada, completing the 8th grade. She and her brother Roy walked 2-1/2 miles one way on the railroad tracks while attending school in Wanless, Manitoba. Upon completing the 8th grade, she went to work. Some of her jobs included working on a fruit farm, working in a hotel and as a waitress. She travelled to Salol, MN where she met Harry Salmonson. They were married on March 17th, 1947. They began their married life in a shanty on his parent's farm. They later purchased the school house that Harry had attended and moved it to the farmstead where they spent their entire married life. Daisy kept very busy with the household chores and raising children.  She took great pride in providing home cooked meals and wonderful baked goods including homemade bread for her family.  She and Harry also had a large garden and Daisy was kept busy canning all the produce.  She also enjoyed her flowers and had many houseplants and many cacti and violets. She enjoyed knitting, embroidering, crocheting, playing her auto harp and chording on the piano. God gave her a talent for writing poetry and she published a book of her poems and even had one poem set to music.  She liked sharing her poems by having them printed in the Roseau Times Region. A big accomplishment for her later in life was passing her driver's test and being able to drive and visit her friends. She had a real ministry visiting those in nursing homes and the elderly in the community. She enjoyed traveling and took several train trips to Canada to visit relatives.
After Harry's death in 1991 Daisy moved into the Golf Terrace Apts. in Roseau where she resided for 14 years. She enjoyed attending the Roseau Fair, auction and rummage sales, Crazy Days, etc. She also participated in the Roseau County centennial parade representing Finland. In 2005, Daisy became a resident of the Life Care Manor in Greenbush. The wonderful staff there made her feel right at home. She participated in many activities, especially enjoying Bingo, musical programs, trivia, hangman, movies, church, birthdays and her favorite were the trips to Walmart in Thief River. The most important part of her life was her relationship with Jesus.  The joy of the Lord was her strength.
She is survived by her daughters, Cecelia (Christian) Krieg of Germany; Coleen (Jim) Barnes of St. Paul; Carrie (Tom) Bahr of Duluth; Celeste (Tim) Boyer of Thief River; Charity Salmonson of Winger; and Iris (Bart) Pederson of New Castle, IN; daughter in-law, Hoa Salmonson of Fayetteville, NC; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister Gladys Doyle from Port Alberni, BC and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Calvin, brothers Rudy, Ivan, Roy; sisters Sophie and Ida and her parents.
Funeral services for Daisy were held on Wednesday, January 15th at Helgeson Funeral Chapel. Interment was at Spruce Cemetery.  Online guest book at:
