A funeral service for Gary Seydel of Badger will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Oiland Lutheran Church in Greenbush at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau on Wednesday, May 28 from 5-7 PM with a devotional service at 7:00 PM.
Gary Allen Seydel was born on May 1, 1949 in Roseau, MN to Lois (Wittak) and Frederick “Fritz” Seydel. He was raised and attended school in Badger, graduating from Badger High School in 1967.
After graduation Gary worked construction. He worked at the Badger Elevator for a while and after some time he became an over-the-road trucker. Later, Gary worked at Polaris in Roseau until his retirement.
Gary had many hobbies. Although he swore up and down that he could not stand mowing, his lawn was always neat and well-maintained. When he was not riding the lawn mower Gary loved taking part in sports – cheering at the high school games, watching them on TV, or listening to them on the radio. Another one of his favorite hobbies was farming. He loved spending time in Edmore, ND helping his future son-in-law, Brent Newgard, driving tractor, combine, or semi. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Gary lived for deer hunting; he was diagnosed with a permanent case of “buck fever” at an early age. Visiting was his absolute favorite pastime. If anyone wanted to catch-up on any topic from the weather to gas price – Gary was your man.
Gary was a big teddy bear; he loved to give and receive hugs. Even when he was away from home Gary called to give his family hugs and kisses over the phone. He loved his family very much, and he will be deeply missed by all of them.
Gary passed away on May 20, 2014 at his home. He was 65 years old.
He is survived by his wife Ronna of Badger, children – Rondi Riffle of Bishop, CA, Raechel Riffle (fiancé Brent Newgard) of Edmore, ND, and Rebecca Riffle and grandson Reid Allen of Fargo, ND. He is also survived by his only brother Harvey, his wife Alisa, and daughter Sarah Seydel of Winnipeg, MB; nieces – Tabitha (Lonnie) Thompson and children Ethan and Megan of Donaldson, MN; Tanya (Hakan) Hultman and children Henry and Hannah of Sweden; and Tasha Seydel and her son Avery of Badger, MN. Nephews – Rob Brekke and son Carter of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Ethan Brekke of Detroit Lakes, MN.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents – Frederick “Fritz” and Lois Seydel, and his father- and mother-in-law – Menford and Ruby Brekke , and several aunts and uncles.
