EGF Rotary Club recognizes honor students

Motivated and talented students have the opportunity to be a part of a challenging educational experience.
The East Grand Forks Rotary Club recognizes these efforts and each year it hosts an honors banquet for those of East Grand Forks Senior High and Sacred Heart High School. Students are treated to a dinner and recognized as outstanding students from our area. Their parents get to accompany them and share in their accomplishments. Each student received a certificate of excellence from the East Grand Forks Rotary Club.
Students who have shown exemplary performance in their high school work are rated according to their academic excellence and co-curricular activities. To qualify for the list, students must carry a 3.75 for all four consecutive years.
Master of ceremonies for the honors program was East Grand Forks Rotary Club President, Dr. Paul Stadem; the invocation was presented by Chris Leach, the Youth Director at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and the motivational speaker was Mike Marek. Marek brought the ideas of “How to play your cards in life” to all in attendance. The main focus was that you are dealt a hand; it’s up to you as to how you play it in life. Remember the people who got you there and when it’s your turn do good to others. Listen to the voice. Do it to the world, don’t let the world mold your ideas and convictions. Pay attention to the number of meaningful relationships you make in your life. And at the end, Marek as a good teacher gave a review exam and there were participants in the crowd who could repeat his pointers.
The following students were honored by their respective principals, Phillip Meyer of Sacred Heart High School and Steve Heyd of East Grand Forks Senior High, Wednesday evening April 23, 2008 at the Eagles Club in East Grand Forks:
Sacred Heart – Kelley Burg, Lora Evenstad, Kaylee Jangula, Noah Jeffrey, Joo Hyung Lee, Patrick Thompson and Sara Tupa.
East Grand Forks Senior High – Nicole Anderson, Kaley Johnson, Eric Kees, Josie Keifenheim, Justin Nelson, Shelby Nelson, Bridget Piche, Rachelle Radi, Kacie Reardon, Briana Scanlan, Heather Sorenson, Kerianne Trudel, Joey Wikoff and Amanda Zimmerman
The Rotary Club thanks everyone for supporting fund raisers they handle throughout the year. It is through community support that the Rotary is able to help students. This year two students, one from Sacred Heart High School and one from East Grand Forks Senior High, will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Rotary Club at their respective honors award ceremonies.
