The eighth annual mission project of Mendenhall Vacation Bible School to help Polk County Social Services foster care has collected thirty backpacks and suitcases so far. Nine years ago, members of Mendenhall Presbyterian Church VBS teaching staff and Polk County Social Services staff agreed that personal items and a way to carry them (other than a plastic bag) would help children make the transition into foster care with dignity.
VBS students and their parents donated the bags and/or personal items such as combs, tooth brushes, hair brushes, story books, coloring books, wash cloths, and other items that the children thought they would want in that situation. Mendenhall will continue collecting items through this week and take the donations to Polk County Social Services at the EGF site later this week.
Teachers and helpers this year along with Bev Casmey included Rachel Hemsing, Jodie Boushee, Gloria Bancroft, Linda Peterson, Renae Hillestad, Ann Enright, Cindy Barrett, Tyler Barrett, Travis Enright, Sarah McDonald, Matt Hillestad, Mekayla Shelton, Lynnea Casmey, Trisha Twite and Tamara Twite.
