Marguerite Johnston
Marguerite Johnston, 98, of East Grand Forks, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2008 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, ND.Marguerite Ann Reese was born on February 13, 1910, in St. Vincent, MN, the daughter of Frank D. and Amelia (Ceravsky) Reese.
Marguerite grew up and attended school in St. Vincent, MN. Following her graduation from high school she went on and attended St. Cloud Teachers College in St. Cloud, MN.
She drove a horse and buggy to travel the 4 ½ miles to school, where she taught school at the age of 19, teaching 30 children of all ages, including one boy of 18.
On March 23, 1935, she married Lloyd A. Johnston in St. Vincent, MN and then in 1944 moved to East Grand Forks.
Family members who survive Marguerite include her children: Patricia (Gordon) Nylen of Irvine, CA, Judith (George) Hanson of East Grand Forks and Cynthia (Jaymes) Littlejohn of Lino Lakes, MN, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Marguerite is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd on July 3, 1984, two brothers, Arnold and Charlie Reese.
She was active in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, and the First Women Session member.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, East Grand Forks.
Graveside burial services were held Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
