Loretta Lawson-Vandal
Loretta Lawson-Vandal, 82, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, due to complications of diabetes.Loretta was born on November 17, 1925, the daughter of Thomas and Jessie (Smith) Simons. Loretta grew up in Rural Walhalla, ND.
On October 31, 1945 she was united in marriage to Loarn Herman. To this union she had three children, Alaine Kay, Margie and Patti. Loarn passed away in January of 1952.
On January 7, 1953 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Lawson. They had one son, Rocky. They spent 35 years on the farm in Mountain, ND. Lawrence passed away in August of 1984.
She married Lawrence Vandal. They enjoyed retired life on the farm, and later moved to Grand Forks, where they resided in Parkwood Place. Lawrence passed away on April 24, 2004.
Loretta was a wonderful woman who enjoyed and prized her family. In her younger years she loved to entertain the whole group. She was a nurse and worked 25 years at the Pembiler Nursing Center in Walhalla, ND. Loretta was an avid quilter, crotchetier and knitter. She gave away much of what she made.
Family members who survive Loretta include her children, Margie (Jim) DeLaHunt of Woodbury, MN, Patti (George) Berg of East Grand Forks, Rocky (Nancy) Lawson of Gardar, ND, brother Wally Simons of Walhalla, ND, sister Mary Worshek of Cloquet, MN, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding Loretta in death are her parents, three husbands, brother Frank, and an infant daughter.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, July 28, 2008 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 So. 9th St., Grand Forks.
Interment: Oak Lawn Cemetery, Concrete, ND
