Squirt Black win District 16 title
The Squirt Black team ended its season by capturing the District 16 Championship played March 1st-2nd in Crookston. Thief River Falls and Red Lake Falls were the two Saturday opponents in the pool play games. A 6-3 victory over TRF and a 6-6 tie with RLF sent the Squirt Black into Sunday’s championship game.The team would face Roseau White in the title game match-up. The Squirt Black had defeated Roseau White in a hard fought game by a 9-5 score a few weeks earlier. The team came out skating hard, played well throughout the game and skated to a 12-1 win earning the championship trophy.
The Squirt Black team worked together throughout the season and used balanced scoring, good defense and goaltending on its way to a successful season. The team finished first in the Cloquet and District16 tournaments and third place in their bracket of the Fargo International tournament.
The coaches and players thank the Blue Line Club, the Park & Recreation department and their families for the great support throughout the season.
Team members are Dryden Dragich, Jacob Olson, Bret Holm, Casey Swanson, Levi Pesch, Josh Weber, Andrew Knopp, Mavryk Blake, Zach Straw, Nathan Heisler, Reed Corbid and Braden Shea. Coaches are Bill Straw, Chip Shea and Mark Dragich.
