Recount confirms Moorman win in L/W County District 3

John Oren
Ken Moorman of the rural Pitt area is officially your new District 3 Lake of the Woods County Commissioner.
A recount held Thursday (Nov., 16) confirmed Moorman’s win over incumbent commissioner George Swentik.
Moorman won by the slimmest of margins in the November 7 election, 182 votes to 181 for Swentik.
The recount involved four precincts within the sprawling district, one that stretches from just west of Baudette all the way west to Williams and south to the Beltrami County line.
The accuracy of the county’s new voting machines was proven when the recount numbers matched the initial vote counts exactly.
The county canvassing board met in special session Friday to confirm the final results.
There were 372 votes cast in District 3, and nine of those voters did not cast votes for the commissioner race.
Swentik requested the recount, which was done at county expense because of the very slim margin of Moorman’s win.
Moorman will officially take over from Swentik on January 2, 2007.
