Baudette Bay Hockey Classic gears up for event

The Baudette Bay Hockey Classic committee members were thrilled with the recent announcement of FSN’s and Minnesota WILD’s coverage of the event in conjunction with Hockey Day Minnesota. The Classic is a celebration of our area’s hockey history and our community is honored to showcase its hockey history during the game that will be held outside on the Baudette Bay on January 20th.
Classic committee members are now gearing up for pre-game fundraising efforts and are focusing on a Timeline of Activities for the day. The Classic will kick off with a 5K Walk/Run at 9:00 AM, followed by a host of fun outdoor activities! There will be Snowman Building for families and children, an Ice Fishing Game, a Hockey Puck Shoot, plus many concessions, which will open at 10:00 AM.
Some novel pre-game ideas were discussed for the players and other youth involved in our Hockey Program including: a Tug of War, a 3-legged Race, and a Snowshoe Relay. Our Lake of the Woods Pep Band will be on hand to welcome the players on the ice at 12:15 and the Bear’s mascot will officiate in awarding prizes during the pre-game activities. The Classic’s Puck Drop will occur at 1:15 PM, and during the first intermission our Tiny Mites will skate. During the second intermission our Local Hockey Legends will be introduced to the public and there will be an announcement of the winner for a 50/50 draw.
The Baudette Bay Hockey Classic’s next fundraiser will be a New Year’s Eve Gala, at the Moose Club, in Baudette. The Gala will open at 8 PM on New Years Eve and go until 1:00 AM. This will be a great opportunity for supporters of the Classic to socialize and introduce the event to other community members! The Undertakers have been booked for the musical entertainment, and there will numerous Social Games, VIPs in attendance and Silent/Live Auctions. A scrumptious Appetizer Bar, each featuring a different ethnic food, will serve as the evening‚s refreshments. A Commemorative Program for the Baudette Bay Hockey Classic is in the works and will be on sale during the New Year’s Eve Gala.
The Commemorative Program will offer thousands of hockey fans from throughout the region a chance to read about our area‚s Hockey History, and will be the key informational piece for all of the events during the Classic. The program will also include information about our Baudette/Lake of the Woods Chamber of Commerce, the City of Baudette, the Lake of the Woods Tourism Bureau, the Lake of the Woods Bears, and the St. Paul Johnson Governors and will feature the entire schedule for the game. The Commemorative Program‚s professional format will give the program added value as a keepsake of this historic game.
The next Baudette Bay Hockey Classic meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 30, at 6:15 PM in the VFW Clubrooms in Baudette. Be sure to attend!
