Lena Marhula
Lena N. Marhula was born April 1, 1919 in Mountain Iron, MN., the daughter of Raffaela (GLiatta) and Frank Norcia. Lena / Lee grew up and graduated from Mountain Iron High School in 1936. She moved to Baudette following her graduation and worked as a secretary for the Soil Conservation Service where she met Adolph Marhula; they were married October 7, 1940 in Mountain Iron, MN. Together they raised six children: "five sons and they all had a sister."Lee was always a sports enthusiast. She enjoyed supporting her children at hockey, basketball and baseball games. For many years she belonged to a golf league and a bowling league. Although she always tried to improve her game the main reason she joined was to enjoy the company of her friends. She was also an avid fisherwoman ~ summer or winter it was hard to outfish her. When fishing with her grandchildren it was always more important that they catch the fish. If she was in the "lucky spot" or had the "lucky lure" she would gladly swap with a grandchild, so he or she could experience the action.
Lee passed away on April 17, 2007 at the LakeWood Health Center in Baudette at the age of 88. She is survived by her husband, Adolph of Baudette; children, David (Mary) of Baudette, Dennis (Diana) of Excelsior, MN, Richard (Linda) of Rosemount, Charles (Cynthia) of Grand Forks, ND, Rosemary (Wayne) Brenden of Grand Rapids, MN and Michael (Carrie) of Lakeville; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Gagnon of Mountain Iron and brothers, Alfred Norcia of Virginia, MN and Leonard Norcia of Coralville, IA.
