Clara Blake
Clara L. Blake, 91, of International Falls, Minnesota, died May 7, 2007, in the Falls Memorial Hospital.Funeral services were held May 10, 2007, at 11 a.m. from the Birchdale Congregational Church in Birchdale. Visitation was held one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment is in Border Cemetery at Border, Minnesota.
Clara Laurine was born December 29, 1915, to Fred and Mary (Sweigard) Holst at St. Francis, Minnesota. Following graduation Clara attended teachers’ school. She taught school in the St. Francis area for a few years and at the Border School for a few years before she married Laverne Blake on June 21, 1946.
Clara was a homemaker and worked on the farm for many years. Some of her hobbies included reading, embroidering, knitting, crocheting, gardening, playing the piano, flowers and going for walks. She also loved to play “skip bo” right up until the time she died. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. They would come to her home almost every weekend, and, in the summer, to spend time with their grandparents.
As a member of the Birchdale Congregational Church, Clara was active as a member of the Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her son, Howard Schake of Loman; one sister, Lucille (Arlo) Peterson of Isanti; four grandchildren: Carolyn (Bruce) Graves of International Falls, Stephanie (Warren) Wilson of Bemidji, Holly (Chuck) Wilson of Cando, North Dakota, and Jeff Schake of Grand Forks, North Dakota; nine great-grandchildren: Bobbi, Brandon, Chas, Cassidi, Tayler, Crystal, Heather, Joshua and Tiana; and one great-great-grandson, Nash.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Laverne Blake, and her brother, Fredrick Holst.
Helgeson Funeral Chapel had charge of arrangements.
