It’s Moose Fest Weekend in Karlstad

If you can’t find something to do in Karlstad this weekend, you‘re not looking.
It’s the Annual Moose Fest at Karlstad this week and the weekend is chock full of activities to fit everyone’s idea of a weekend of fun. Be sure to purchase your Moose Fest buttons to get in on the prize drawings to be held Saturday afternoon on Main Street.
It all begins on Friday night at Moose Park with a DJ dance with Backdraft running the mike and sound. Kick up your heels at 9 p.m and dance until 1 a.m.
An early start of Saturday with the 5K run, city-wide garage sales, a book sale by the Karlstad Library, food vendors, free inflatable games for the kids and free face painting. Then grab lunch and enjoy a little bingo at the Karlstad Community Center sponsored by the Karlstad Senior Citizens.
A new addition to the event is the Backwoods Ranch Petting Zoo. TrayC Erven will bring the animals, including llamas, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks and more next to Germundson’s Home Furnishings on Main Street. There will also be hand-given pony rides for the children. All this starts at 10 a.m. and continues until 6 p.m.
The Moose Park will be the scene for the annual Classic Car Show which has always been a big hit at past Moose Fests. Cars will be on display beginning at 11 a.m.
The second annual Moose Fest Chili Cookoff begins at noon and will feature local chili chefs competing with their favorite recipes. Best of all, it will be the public who tastes the concoctions and votes for the winner. Be sure to get your shot at selecting this year’s champion and get there before 2 p.m. to get a taste of the chilies available.
If you know the words to your favorite song, but you can’t carry a tune in a bucket, try just mouthing the words. And you might even be able to win a prize in the Moose Fest Lip Synch contest scheduled at 1 p.m. And if you are not the adventurous type, just sit back and watch your favorite local artists mouth and act out the words of their favorite singers on the Main Street Stage at 1 p.m.
Round out the activities of the day with another dance at Moose Park, this time with live music by BillyD and the Crystals. The music cranks up at 9 p.m. and continues until 1 a.m.
The dancing will take a break at sundown and visitors will be treated to a spectacular fireworks display in the park. Once the fireworks has doled out its ooohs and aahs, the music returns and its back to the dance floor, or dance ground in this case.
Sunday morning the Karlstad Ministerium will hold an ecumenical worship service at the Tri County School at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, stick around for a potluck lunch served in the school cafeteria. If you would like to bring food for the potluck, contact Sue at the Karlstad City Clerk’s Office at 436-2178.
Sunday afternoon golfers will take to the tees for a 4-person Scramble Golf Tournament. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and shotgun tee off is slated at noon.
