City needs a shower says MDH

Dan Nordine
The Karlstad City Council was informed by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that it either needs to construct a shower facility at its campground site located in Moose Park, or provide sanitary sewer service to the full hook-up camp sites.
The notification came in an inspection report following an annual inspection by the MDH.
According to the inspection report, action by the city is required and must be in place prior to the next camping season in 2009.
Wayne Ruud told the city council that he asked how long the MDH had been inspecting the camping area and was told the inspections had been taking place for the past ten years. He said he asked why this problem had not been addressed in the past.
“The inspector just said, It should have have been,” Ruud said.
Though no action was taken last Wednesday at the council’s meeting, discussion seemed to favor digging in sewer facilities to the sites rather than the construction of a shower facility.
If sewer facilities are available, RV’s with self contained liquid waste systems could use their camper’s shower systems.
The inspection report also indicated that the city needs to reslope the dump station apron located at the south entrance to the park.
