Vernie Nelson

Vernie Nelson, 94, of Lancaster, MN passed away at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, MN on Sunday, July 13, 2008.
Vernie L. Myers was born August 9, 1913 to Manassa and Marie (Fillbrandt) Myers at Calvin, North Dakota. As a young woman she moved to Lancaster with her family. On June 23, 1940 she married Donald P. Nelson at Lancaster. They worked at the P.F. Pearson farm until 1950 when they bought a farm in Granville Township of Kittson County. Donald died on February 25, 2003. Vernie was a member of Sion Lutheran Church.
Family members include two sons: John (Sue) Nelson, Mt. Dora, FL and Judson (Norma) Nelson, Lancaster; four granddaughters: Kelly, Sarah, Kerry and Lynne; three great-granddaughters: Brogan, Bailey and Cera Marie; a sister: Thea Zakrison, Dillon, MT; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gordon (Marjorie) Nelson, Lancaster and Margaret Auge, St. Paul, MN; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Lloyd, Clayton, Lester and Roy; sisters: Ella, Tessie, Ida and Clara; and a nephew: Kurt Nelson.
Funeral services were Friday, July 18 at 2:00 p.m. in Sion Lutheran Church, Lancaster, Rev. Melodi Hagen, presiding; Galen Nordin and Faye Whitlock, duet; Dianne Rice, organist. Casket bearers were Stan Ehrenstrom, Jeffrey Nelson, Daniel Nelson, Roy Stenmark, Perry Pearson and Brent Pearson.
Austin-Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock was in charge of arrangements.
