Stanley Johnson
Stanley Clifford Johnson, 93 years old, of Turlock, CA, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 28, 2008 in Turlock.Stanley was born October 18, 1914 in Lancaster, Poppleton Township, MN to Carl August and Clara Margaret Johnson. Their families had both come from Sweden. He was the oldest of six children, grew up on a potato farm and went to Lancaster schools. The family attended the Lancaster Baptist Church; he accepted the Lord at Church Bible Camp. He was in the U. S. Army in 1942-1943, stationed in Texas. After a medical discharge, he married Margaret Eleanor Danielson of Turlock, and they made their first home in Oakland, CA. Stan worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, first in Hayward, CA and then in Hughson, CA, retiring after 35 years. He always went the extra mile for his patrons and made sure they received each and every letter or package on time. He was member of the Turlock Covenant Church, California Rural Carriers Association, American Legion Post 872 and Disabled American Veterans. He loved raising Angus and Gelbvieh cattle, riding horses, being a 4-H leader and growing vegetables and flowers, especially award winning dahlias. He was very resourceful, did a lot of maintenance on his cars, had a little Honey business—built the hives, extracted the honey and sold it bottled with his own label. He loved to ride his horse in parades with his son and friends. Stan and Margaret loved to travel in their RV, going to Death Valley in the winter time and visiting relatives across the USA. They also visited Hawaii, Canada and Europe. A highlight was traveling in Sweden where they visited many relatives.
Stanley is survived by his wife Margaret of Turlock; two children,: daughter Patricia Mathews (husband Ronald) of Dinuba, CA, son Jerry Johnson (wife Sally) of Yuba City, CA; four grandchildren: Scott Mathews, Dinuba, Stephanie Mathews, Glendora, CA, Greta Johnson, Covina, CA, Erika (Johnson) Pesnell, Yuba City; one great-grandchild: Lukas Johnson, Yuba City; two siblings: Harris Johnson of Tucson, AZ and Ellen Loney of North Logan, Utah.
He was preceded in death by sisters: Hildur Flint and Amy Tschida; and a brother: Ralph Johnson.
