Ethel Wilson
Ethel Wilson, 98, of Hallock, MN passed away at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Sunday morning, August 10, 2008.Ethel Viola Ekvall was born May 6, 1910 in Valley Springs, SD to Emil and Hildur (Wikstrom) Ekvall. The family moved to Duluth and then to the Kennedy, MN area where Ethel attended country school. When Ethel’s family moved to a farm near
Hallock she began the fourth grade there. After completing her education, she married Gilbert Kinshella in 1928. Ethel worked at the Farmers Store for 13 years and later at the Kittson County ASCS office where she was employed until her retirement in 1972. Gilbert passed away in 1960. In 1964 Ethel married Arvid Walstedt and settled on a farm west of town. Following Arvid’s death in 1977, Ethel spent a year in California. She returned in 1978 and received a marriage proposal from Orville “Wils” Wilson. They were married on Easter Sunday, 1978. The couple enjoyed traveling and spent some winters in California. In 1985, they sold the farm and moved into Hallock. Orville passed away on November 30, 1996. Ethel was a member of the Hallock Presbyterian Church.
Family members include sons: Warren (Ortie) Kinshella, San Diego, CA and Dennis (Florence) Kinshella, also of San Diego; a grandson: Dr. Craig Kinshella; great grandsons: Michael and Matthew; a daughter: Kathleen (Ralph) Jansen, Spicer, MN; grandchildren: Julie, Colleen and Scott; four great grandchildren; and a sister: Mildred. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Milton and Elof.
Funeral services were scheduled Wednesday, August 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hallock Presbyterian Church. Rev. Don Woodford, presiding; special music was provided by Colleen Heck, piano, Scott Jansen, solo, Julie Nosser, flute and Kristi Morrison, organist. Casket bearers were Ralph Jansen, Bryan Younggren, Scott Jansen, Robert Cameron, Larry Younggren and John Bergh. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Austin-Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock was in charge of arrangements.
