Rolland Curry

Rolland Curry was 77 years old and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He died August 7, 2008 at the MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family.
Rolland Clinton Curry was born to William and Helma (Bakken) Curry on April 13, 1931 in Erskine, MN. Following his father’s death, his mother married William McKay. He attended school through 7th grade at Erskine, MN. He worked on their family farm until he enlisted in the army at Fargo, ND in 1952. He served in the Korean War from 1952-1954 and fought in the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge and Christmas Hill. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1960. During time overseas, Rolland was pen pals with Carol Jean Carnegie whom would include notes inside the letters that his sister Violet would send to him. Rolland and Carol were married August 27, 1955 and resided in Stephen. He worked as an electrician for the city. Rolland was active in the American Legion, VFW and at the Senior center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, grilling, and loved spending time with his family, who was always his first priority. Rolland had recently taken up the hobby of restoring and rebuilding planes at Larson Ag, Inc. in Stephen.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Carol Jean Curry. They have seven children: Debra, Rolland Jr, Lee (Susan Ekholm), Sandi, Beth (Todd Abrahamson), Jay, and Andrew (Trisha Hoglo). He has 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers Hermes (Violet), Orville, and a sister Violet Carruthers.
Preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ardel, Clare, Marvin and Bob.
We love him and will all miss him dearly. He will always be known for the smile on his face and the friendly service he showed
everyone around him.
Funeral services were Monday, August 11, at 1:00 p.m. in First Lutheran Church at Stephen, Rev. Michael Schendel, presiding; special music was provided by Leslie Widner and Ann Woinarowicz. Casket bearers were Darrell Topka, Jacob Curry, Jared Curry, Daniel Curry, Jordan Topka. Honorary casket bearers were members of the Stephen American Legion and the Kennedy VFW. Interment was in the Stephen City Cemetery.
The Adamson-Austin Funeral Home of Stephen was in charge of arrangements.
