Ruben Arvesen
Ruben Arvesen, 93, of Argyle and formerly of Donaldson, MN, passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren on Tuesday, August 26, 2008.Ruben was born April 19, 1915 near Donaldson, to Arve and Esther (Syrtvedt) Arvesen. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Olaf Lutheran Church and attended school in Donaldson. Ruben entered the U.S. Army in July of 1942 and served with the 95th Infantry Division. The 95th was also known and the “Victory Division” and fought in France and Germany. Ruben fought four years with the 95th Victory Division and received the European Theatre Ribbon, three battle stars, the Bronze Star Medal and the Victory Medal. Ruben returned home to farm with his family near Donaldson. On April 8, 1948 he was united in marriage to Audrey Winge at the Skjeberg Lutheran Church. They settled in Davis Township and farmed there for many years. In 1991, Ruben and Audrey moved to Argyle. Audrey died on July 14, 2000. Ruben had been a resident of Tamarac Senior Living Community prior to entering the Good Samaritan Center.
He is survived by two nephews: Wayne (Susie) Koland, Thief River Falls, MN and Curtiss (Sandy) Koland, Wasilla, AK.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Arnold, Einar, Hans, Godfred, Loring and Carl; and sisters: Edna and Melbrey.
Funeral services were Friday, August 29, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Donaldson, Pastor Melodi Hagen, presiding; Marlys Nelson, organist; Lyndon Johnson, soloist. Honorary casket bearers were Phil Thompson, Mike Williams, John Cervantes, Dennis Winge, Tom Britten, Keith Britten and the staff of Tamarac Senior Living Community. Casket bearers were Nathan Koland, Joe Sabol, Garret Winge, Scott Winge, Darron Benson and Marty Gavin. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Donaldson.
The Austin-Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock was in charge of arrangements.
