Goldie Krantz
Goldie Krantz passed away unexpectedly at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo on September 11, 2008 at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 25 daysGoldie Adelia Krantz was born on April 17, 1927, in Prairie View, IL to Oscar and Ida (Fangstrom) Oberg. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up near Halma. She attended Halma school and graduated from Karlstad in 1945. She was united in marriage to Everett Norman “Butch” Krantz on December 15, 1946 in Chicago and soon after moved to Halma, later moving to Karlstad. Along with raising six children, Goldie worked at the Karlstad Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aid for 42 years until the hospital closed on January 31, 1995. She then went on to work at Pine to Prairie for a year and then in hospice care for a number of years. Goldie was a warm and caring person who always made everyone feel special. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Karlstad, the Karlstad American Legion Auxiliary, Thief River Falls V.F.W Auxiliary, and was named Karlstad Woman of the Year in 1984. Goldie enjoyed baking “the world’s best” homemade brown bread and buns, cooking, working crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, and spending time with her 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Goldie is survived by her husband: Butch of Karlstad; four sons: Wayne (Joan), Randy (Karen), Brent (Mary) all of Karlstad, and Bradley of Halma; two daughters: Kathy (Steve) Mercil of Strandquist and Kristen (Roy) Stewart of Lancaster; 15 grandchildren: Brian (Donnelle) Krantz, Andrea (David) Clausen, Philip Krantz, Chiri (Brian Hart) Grandstrand, Leslie (Roman) Gudmundson, Karey (Jeremy) Johnson, Allison (Kevin) Shetler, Stephanie (Gary) Maurstad, Mya (Jared) Eidelbes, Ashley and Anthony Stewart, Megan, Larissa, Mallory and Brielle Krantz; 20 great grandchildren: Britni, Crysta and Kandis Krantz, Keegan, Rylie and Tucker Krantz, Courtney, Carter and Cooper Grandstrand, Kaden Hart, Logan and McKenna Maurstad, Liberty and Jordan Johnson, Roman Gudmundson, Kylie and Jana Shetler, Jesse and Bailey Clausen, Javyn Eidelbes; her half sister Louise Wood of Escondido, CA, and her brother-in-law James (Doris) Krantz of Golden Valley, MN, along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; three half brothers: Raymond Dillie, Emmanuel “Buddy” Dillie, and Arthur Oberg; two half sisters: Ellen and Ethel Spilde.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 16, at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Pastor Gary Halverson officiating. Goldie’s children acted as her casket bearers while her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary bearers. Corienne Jacobson was the organist accompanying Lola Germundson and Meridith Walton. A special presence was provided by all of Goldie's many friends in the American Legion Auxiliary. Interment was held at Eidsvold Lutheran Cemetery in Halma following services.
