Chester Martinson
Chester John Martinson, 80, of Halma, MN died Tuesday, Seotember 9, 2008 att he Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock.
Chester John Martinson, the son of the late John and Martha (Mathison) Martinson, was born on March 15, 1928, in Kittson Co., near Karlstad, MN. He attended school and grew to manhood there, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended auto and diesel mechanic school at Fargo-Moorhead. Chester served with the U.S. Army and following discharge from the service, returned to Karlstad. On March 16, 1958, he was united in marriage to Arlene Anderson at Lake Bronson, MN. The couple resided at Minto, ND, and later returned to Karlstad. In 1968, they moved to the Halma community where Chester has since made his home. Arlene passed away Nov. 18, 1999. Chester was a member of the Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Post and of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Karlstad. He passed away at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Tues. afternoon, Sept. 9, 2008, at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 24 days.
He is survived by one daughter: Audrey (Gerry) Korbl, of Greenbush, MN.; three sons: John (Holly Burkel) and Robert (Kristi) Martinson, both of Karlstad, and Wayne (Joyce McKay), of Strandquist; four grandchildren: Josh, Alysha, Paige, and Katy Jo; one sister: Gladys Tanem, of Hibbing, MN.; special friend: Marjorie Altendorf, of Karlstad; addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Chester was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers: Melvin and Martin, and five sisters: Julia, Bertha, Myrtle, Marie, and Inez.
Funeral services for Chester J. Martinsion were held Friday, September 12, rev. Mitch Toplingrud officiating. Organist: Barb Staie and everett Englund vocalist. Congregational hymns included “Abide With Me” and “How Great Thou Art”, and musical selections were “Beyond The Sunset” and “Old Rugged Cross”. Casket bearers were Billy Meader, Clifford Davis, Chris davis, Dale Martinson, Curtis Eilertson and Rick Wheeler. Interment was at Jupiter Mission Cemetery, Kennedy, MN. Military honors accorded by the Halma-Lake Bronson Legion Post.
