Gators go 1-2 at Classic

On a beautiful Saturday the BGMR Gator Softball Team was extremely competitive going 1-2 in the Gator Softball Classic. The Gators were one out away from picking up another victory and advancing to the championship game however game up on the short end of the stick in a 5-3 loss to East Grand Forks. The Gator smashed Blackduck 20-3 and loss to Norman County East/Ulen Hitterdal in the 3rd place game.
BGMR began the day with a thrilling 5-3 loss to East Grand Forks. The Green Wave held a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Gators scored two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead. After the Gators got two quick outs East Grand Forks managed to get a single, which was just missed on a diving attempt by Gator outfielder Anna Wicklund, a walk and another single to tie the game.
In extra innings the Gator defense fell apart as the Green Wave scored 3 runs in the 8th. BGMR did manage to get one of those runs back in the bottom of the 8th but could manage no more.
Gator starting pitcher Tessa McKeever pitched a brilliant game and kept the Green Wave in check however was unable to pick up the victory. With the loss the Gators move to 0-1 in pool play.

After a disappointing first game loss the Gators took out their frustrations on Blackduck in route to a 20-3 win. The game was close until the 5th inning when the Gators managed to send 18 batters to the plate and scored 13 runs.
Offensively the Gators were led by Lyndsey Daignault who had three hits. Haley Price and Anna Wicklund contributed two hits apiece.
Gator starting pitcher Tiffany Novacek went the distance earning her sixth win of the year. Novacek allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and struck out 2.
Every Gator who is on the varsity roster got into the game and contributed to the win. With the win the Gators earned a berth in the 3rd and 4th place game.

A strong Norman County East-Ulen Hitterdal team finished second in their pool and faced the Gators in the 3rd and 4th place game.
The Titans jumped on the Gators early with two runs in the first. BGMR managed to tie the game with two runs in their half of the first. BGMR took a 4-2 lead with 2 runs in the fourth the Gators however gave the lead right back giving up 3 runs in the fifth and the Titans put the game out of reach with 1 run in the sixth and 1 in the seventh.
Offensively the Gators managed only 5 hits. Alissa Olson, Breanne Gjovik, Anna Wicklund, Tiffany Novacek and Tessa McKeever each managed a hit. Defensively the Gators played better but still had 3 erros that led to 2 unearned runs.

The Gator Softball program would like to thank all those parents and fans who donated time to make the tournament a huge success.
