Bobby Boen likely to be coach
Bobby Boen, son of Wally Boen (who coached and taught in Karlstad years ago), has been the assistant coach in Brockton, MA, for 23 years. Now, with head coach Vic Ortiz retiring, chances are likely that the position for the jayvee basketball team will be passed on to him. This year has been one of transition for the Brockton High Boxers, as the head coach had Boen start off with his jayvee players this year, to implement any changes he plans on.“Basically, we have the same philosophy,” says Ortiz. “I’m more vocal. Bobby’s (Boen) more calm, although I have seen him become more vocal this year. He’s also a little more open minded about offense than me because the Boens never saw a shot they didn’t like.”
Boen teaches fifth grade at Whitman Elementary in Brockton.
