Sugar Shack Bakery opening in Greenbush

Mavis Gonshorowski
Does your mouth water for a scrumptious caramel roll that you can sink your teeth into? Or, perhaps a slice of banana cream pie piled high with fluffy meringue to have with your coffee, only to find your cupboard is bare?
Well, no more. Two ambitious gals who were more- than-likely to have been born with a mixing spoon in their hands rather than a “silver spoon in their mouths” have come up with a solution that will make your “sweet tooth” smile!
Sonia Lee of the Twins Rockin’ 50’s Cafe here in Greenbush and her twin sister, Sandy Wyland of the Twins Corner Cafe in Badger have combined the best of their recipes and are opening a bakery in Greenbush!
Located in the over-flow section of the Rockin’ 50’s Cafe, it has been given the name Sugar Shack.
“We have a little work to do yet,” Sonia said, “but our plans are to be open for business on Monday, April 28. A grand opening will follow at a later date.”
With the bakery quartered in the back portion of the Sugar Shack, the front portion of the bakery area has seating for those who wish to enjoy bakery-fresh sweets and beverages. This area will also continue to serve as an overflow for seating of restaurant customers.
The installation of a cappuchino machine will eventually be added to the Sugar Shack.
Display cases will be stocked with goodies from which you can choose to buy.
On the list of “good things to eat” will be pies, cookies, bars, donuts, rolls, Danish cream cheese braids and muffins as well as diabetic cookies.
When the holidays roll around, scrumptious lefsa, krumkaka, rosettes and candies will be added to the list of favorites for sale.
Homemade bread loaves and buns, that of onion dill, oatmeal-molasses, wheat and white, will be available.
Sonia stated, “There will also be potato, macaroni, Italian pasta, broccoli and fruit salads available in small quantities.”
For larger quantities of salad, place your order a couple of days ahead of time.
“We’ll do specially-decorated cutouts for any occasion,” commented Sonia
Birthday cakes and sheet cakes will be made to order, again give at least a two-day notice. This also applies to desserts that one would like to order in larger quantities.
When it comes to gift giving, keep in mind goodies from the Sugar Shack. A perfect gift for that “person who has everything”!
Another unique item that will be offered by the Twins are home-made doggie treats!
“I just love doing this kind of work,” Sonia said. “It’s rewarding to hear the compliments.”
A couple of go-getters, Sandy and Sonia have proven to be real assets to Badger and Greenbush. In small towns such as ours, we are very fortunate to have places where we can enjoy our choice of excellent food and excellent cooks!
