Just cruisin' through

Some real “beauties” stopped in Greenbush last Friday, June 6. And no, they weren’t beauty pageant contestants.
They were, however, a total of 14 beauties all of their very own. Just ask a vintage car collector!
Leaving Grand Rapids, Minnesota, on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m., members of the Itasca Vintage Car Club were on a two-and-a half day, 450-mile excursion. Fourteen vehicles and 28 people made the trek.
The oldest vehicle making the trip was a 1937 Chevrolet; the newest was a ‘75 Buick Limited.
Tom Chapin, who proudly sat behind the wheel of his 1959 Edsel said, “There are about 140 members in the club. We go on a couple of tours a year.”
The Itasca Vintage Car Club is responsible for hosting the Northern Minnesota Swap Meet which is held for two days the last weekend in July.
“This is our 37th year,” Tom commented. “The swap is held at the Itasca County Fairgrounds and is always very-well attended.”
Club members are required to work at the swap meet to qualify for benefits. These benefits are then used to pay for tours that the club members go on.
“The club also donates money for various needs in the Grand Rapids area, such as Grand Rapids High School Scholarships. We usually give from $4,000 to $,5000 yearly,” stated Mr. Chapin.
The first day of the tour took the travelers to Crookston where they enjoyed viewing a car collection and spending the night.
Friday morning found the group touring Arctic Cat, Inc., in Thief River Falls.
After enjoying a noon meal at the Twins Rockin’ 50’s Cafe here in Greenbush, they continued their journey onto Warroad where they were scheduled to tour Marvin Windows and Doors.
We hope you had an enjoyable trip and that you arrived home safely; thank you for stopping in Greenbush!
