Theresse "Tess" Lundby

Theresse “Tess” Odine (Nelson) Lundby, 89, Greenbush, MN, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at LifeCare Greenbush Manor in Greenbush, MN. Tess was born on her parents’ farm on May 4, 1918, to Christopher Theodore and Cecelia (Lillehaugen) Nelson near Brocket, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Sarnia Lutheran Church, Whitman, ND.
Tess married Edwin Lundby on June 25, 1945, in Seattle, WA, and they farmed in Walsh County, ND until Edwin’s death in February of 1948. Their daughter Eunice was born later that month.
Tess and Eunice resided in eastern North Dakota until 1957, when they moved to Moorhead, MN. Tess worked as a secretary for many years, including in the business office at Concordia College. While in Moorhead, she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as a docent at the Hjemkomst Center.
In 1989, Tess moved to Greenbush, MN to be closer to her daughter and 6 grandchildren. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and Greenbush Friends of the Library. She faithfully attended the annual Hallinglag gathering and served for many years as editor of the Hallingen magazine. Tess enjoyed writing and receiving letters, working on family history projects, visiting with friends over coffee, and spending time with her family. She also loved watching the Minnesota Twins.
She is survived by her daughter, Eunice, Greenbush, MN; 6 grandchildren, Brock (Jennifer), Moorhead, MN; Kurt (Bridget), Greenbush, MN; Heather (Greg) Sugden, Galloway, NJ; Carter (Tamara), Big Lake, MN; Louise, Chapel Hill, NC; and Emily, St. Cloud, MN; 7 great-grandchildren, Julia, Kyle, Lauren, Vincent, Bryant, Ella, and Reagan; 2 foster great-grandchildren; her sister, Viola DeMarce, Spring Valley, CA; one sister-in-law, Beverly Nelson, Brocket, ND; and many other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Valborg Nelson, Aleda Nelson, and Laila Maudslien; one brother, Rudolph Nelson; her husband, Edwin Lundby; and her son-in-law, Larry Stenberg.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in Bethel Lutheran Church of Greenbush with Pastor Bryce Fellbaum, officiating. Music was provided by Linda Sovde. Casket Bearers were Brock, Kurt & Carter Stenberg, Greg Sugden, Gordon Nelson, U.Otto Waage and Garner Eeg. Interment will be in the spring at Sarnia Lutheran Cemetery, Whitman, ND. Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
