Elizabeth Landowski
Elizabeth Landowski passed away at LifeCare Greenbush Manor, on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the age of 96 years, seven months, and five days.Elizabeth Landowski was born on July 9, 1911 in Polonia Township, Roseau County, near Greenbush, to Joseph and Regina (Maikowski) Stanislawski. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leo and attended school in the Leo community. Following school Elizabeth worked for the Hildahl family and helped on her family’s farm. She was united in marriage to Benedict Landowski on November 7, 1933 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Leo and the two made their home and farmed in Barto Township. They retired from farming in 1971 and moved into Greenbush. Elizabeth worked for A.J. Pulczinski at A.J.’s café in Greenbush for 12 years. Ben passed away in July of 1980 and Elizabeth continued to make her home in the Greenbush community, moving into Elderbush Manor for a number of years, and then entering the Greenbush Community Nursing Home, recently renamed LifeCare Greenbush Manor. Elizabeth was a lifelong member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Leo and a current member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Greenbush. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Society at St. Aloysius, lifelong member of St. Ann’s Sodality, a member of the Greenbush Garden Club, and served as Communion Minister at the Greenbush Nursing home for a number of years. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, gardening, and visiting with her friends and relatives.
Elizabeth is survived by one sister-in-law: Christine Stanislawski of Greenbush; seven nephews: Don (Kathy) Stanislawski of Spooner, WI, Bob Stanislawski of Buda, TX, Bill (Angela) Stanislawski of Greenbush, Harold (Mari) and Jeff (Tammy) Stanislawski of Fergus Falls, MN, Leroy (Dena) and Adrian (Marlene) Pulczinski of Greenbush; three nieces: Rozanne (Dick) Barrick of Buda, TX, Lori (Glen) Bakken of Grand Forks, ND, and Peggy Ocks of Parker, CO; and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; four brothers: Felix, John, Richard and Frank Stanislawski; four sisters: Frances Johnson, Agnes Pulczinski, Veronica Shoen and Ann Pakaur.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Greenbush with Fr. Todd Arends presiding. Peggy Swart acted as Song Leader, accompanied by Alice Blawat, the organist. Eucharistic Ministers were Marlene Pulczinski, Christine Stanislawski and Harold Stanislawski. Floyd and Alice Blawat were Gift Bearers and Lori Bakken was the Reader. Altar Servers were Ethan and Ely Novacek, and Wyatt Becker. Casket Bearers for Elizabeth were Adrian and Leroy Pulczinski, Jeff, Bill, John, and Harold Stanislawski and Honorary Bearers were all of the St. Ann’s Sodality members. Visitation was held after 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the Church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at Blessed Sacrament Cemetery of Greenbush in the Spring.
