Daniel Foster

Daniel “Danny” Foster passed away at LifeCare Greenbush Manor on Monday March 10, 2008 at the age of 71 after courageously battling cancer as well as Parkinson’s disease. Danny was born at home, June 3, 1936 to parents Ernest and Evangeline (Dufault) Foster in Warroad, Minnesota. He graduated from Warroad High School in 1954, enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1956, and participated in the first extensive Nuclear Atomic tests June 28, 1957 at Camp Desert Rock, Nevada. Following an honorable discharge, he married Joyce Sawyer on February 22, 1962 at Blessed Sacrament Church of Greenbush, Minnesota where they made their home. Danny worked as a heavy equipment operator for Herb Reese and later for Chinny Construction Co. for many years. Eventually, he was employed by Marvin Windows and Doors until his retirement at the age of 62.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 50, he lived his life with determination, perseverance, and was an inspiration to his family and friends. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush and served on the cemetery committee for several years. He had also had been a member of the Greenbush Fire Dept. He loved deer hunting, playing cribbage and fishing with his two sons and father-in-law whenever possible. He enjoyed watching sports on television especially the Vikings, Timberwolves, Twins, Wild, PGA golf and Fighting Sioux hockey. On November 21, 2006 he entered the Greenbush Community Nursing Home, recently renamed LifeCare Greenbush Manor. He will be greatly missed by those who survive him: his wife Joyce, Greenbush; his three children, John Foster, Greenbush, Jacqueline (son-in-law, Dr. Ric) Ferraro, Grand Forks, ND, Dr. James Foster, Grand Forks, ND.
Additional surviving family members include sisters, Claudette McCoy, Fergus Falls, MN, Marlys Sime, Hugo, MN, Beverly (Bob) Bauer, Freeport, MN, Linda Waldorf, Minneapolis, MN, Paulette (Kermit) Moe, Glencoe, MN, brothers, Forrest Foster, Aurora, MN, Mark Foster, Fargo, ND, Milan (Cheryl) Foster, Avon, MN, brother in-law, Dr. Tomi (Connie) Sawyer, Southborough, MA and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding Daniel in death are: his parents; sisters, Joan Foster (infancy), Judy Mineheine; brother, Stephen Foster; mother and father in-law, Robert and Geraldine Sawyer; brothers-in-law, Stan (Marlys) Sime and Jack (Claudette) McCoy; sisters-in-law, Teri (Mark) Foster and Marge (Forrest) Foster; and niece, Jeanette Foster.
Funeral Mass was held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Greenbush on Saturday, March 15 with Father Todd Arends, officiating. Alice Blawat was the organist and Peggy Swart was the song leader. Bernie Reese was the Reader. Eucharistic ministers were Robert & Patty Truscinski and Theresa Novacek. Casket Bearers were Danny’s brothers & sisters. Military Honors was provided by the U.S. Marine Corps.
Interment will be in Blessed Sacrament Cemetery in the spring.
