Delbert Zak

Delbert Eugene Zak, 76 of Roseau, MN, passed on Monday, March 31, 2008, at the LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau, MN, following a struggle with poor health.
Delbert was born on July 13, 1931 in Roseau, MN to Frank and Anna (Krozska) Zak and grew up in Roseau County. He attended school until the eight grade; Delbert left home in his teens and went off to work in the oil fields of North Dakota. He met Gloria Michel (Gill) from Marmarth, ND and married her in 1963.
He later moved his family to Las Vegas, NV where he worked at the Nevada Test Site and in the construction of many casinos like Caesars Palace. Delbert was a very skilled laborer which included being a master welder, and he operated heavy machines like dozers, large cranes, and the like. He was a member of the Steel and Iron Workers Union. He was not afraid to travel to where the work was nor to do dangerous work. He traveled to Page, AZ with his family for work during his career. He also traveled overseas to work on large oil rigs and even to Alaska. Delbert lived in Las Vegas, NV with his family until 1974. He later separated and eventually was divorced from his wife, Gloria. He returned to Roseau, MN; where he and his siblings cared for his ill mother Anna until her death. While living in Roseau he was employed for a few years at Marvin Windows and Doors and then Polaris Industries for about five years until retiring.
Delbert took care of the Zak family farm and continued to farm the land planting wheat, soy beans and other crops. He did this until his health began to fail. Delbert was talented in his hobbies of fixing up old machinery such as motor scooters, dune buggies, old tractors, farm equipment, cars, and trucks. He enjoyed tinkering around, rebuilding and restoring equipment. All who knew him liked to hear his stories and jokes. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, and funny pranks and trying to stir thing up to see others reactions and remembering the good old days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Anna (Krozska) Zak, his brothers, Clarence, Gary, and Richard; a sister, Evelyn Zak and his nephew, Danny Zak.
Survivors include his children, Brian Zak of Las Vegas, NV; Sylvia Zak (Andrew) Davidson of Madison, WI; Marcella Zak of Las Vegas, NV; Darwin Zak-Michel of Lake Delton, WI; his sisters, Margie Przekwas and Marlene Kvien both of Roseau; his brother, Donald (Barbara) Zak of Roseau; and his grandchild; Sydney Davidson of Madison, WI.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday April 4, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseau.
Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in the spring of 2008.
