Melvin Wang

Melvin Wang, 85, of Greenbush, MN died on Friday, June 20, 2008 in his daughter’s home in New Prague, MN.
Melvin C. Wang, the eldest child of Peter & Ragna (Baker) Wang, was born March 24, 1923 at Soldier, IA. He graduated from Kingsley, Iowa High School in 1940. Mel lost his right hand in a farm accident in 1944 and as a result met and married his nurse, Martha Lawler, on January 2, 1946 at Ogden, IA. He graduated from Moorhead State College at Moorhead, MN with a B.S. degree in Science. They moved to Greenbush in 1957 where Mel taught Science for 30 years until he retired in 1987. Martha died on May 15, 1996.
Mel married Nina Hilde on May 31, 1997 in Greenbush.
Mel’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, farming and sports.

6 children: Marie (Henry) Meyer of New Prague, MN; Janene (Frank) Rybaski of Argyle, MN; Phil (Vickie) Wang of Washington, GA; Lloyd (Doris) Wang of Stephen, MN; Rita (Bob) Kitcey of North Augusta, SC; Tom (Laurie) Wang of Ellendale, ND.
Daughter-in-law—Mary Brandson Wang of Portland, OR.
23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Brothers—Richard and Ronald of Glyndon, MN & Peter of Devils Lake, ND.
Sisters—Marlene Mikkelson of Fargo, ND and Evonne Carlson of Dodge Center, MN.
Mel was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha; son—Larry; brothers, Robert and Ola “Doc” and sister Ellen Rarrick and great-grandson—Ben Thury.
Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, June 24 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Greenbush with Father Todd Arends, officiating. Jeanne and Emily Novacek provided the music. Eucharistic Ministers were Becka Nubson, Jerome & Elinor Koshenina. Altar Servers were Nick Wilson and Wyatt Becker. Casket Bearers were Henry Meyer, Frank Rybaski, Bob Kitcey, Phil, Lloyd and Tom Wang. Interment was in Blessed Sacrament Cemetery with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of arrangements.
