Gator volleyball program made significant strides in 2007 season

Head Coach Stacy Dahl
In subsection tournament action, the BGMR Gator volleyball team came out fighting in the play in game against the Climax-Fisher Knights winning the first game 27-25 but then lost momentum and fell short losing 22-25, 10-25, and 19-25 in the next three games.
Jessica Dvergsten led the Gator attack with 11 kills while senior Hannah Berg finished her career with 9. Vanessa Dvergsten covered the court for 26 assists. Megan Johnson and Anna Wicklund each had 2 aces from the service line.
Leading the Knights in scoring was Meredith Egelund with 12 kills followed by Stephanie Wagner and Brittany Tronnes with 7 kills each. Kaia Korynta had 37 assists, and Kelsey Melsa and Tronnes were hot from the serving line with 4 and 3 kills respectively.
Looking back at the 2007 season, the Gator volleyball program made some significant strides. We knew we had the potential to be successful and truly showed that against quality competition. Even in this last match, there were some positives happening out on the court; however, it’s tough any time the season ends. Hannah Berg, Liz Schenkey, and Anna Wicklund were the anchors of our team and provided solid leadership throughout the season and will be missed. We know younger athletes will step up and fill this void next season, and we look forward to improving our game and playing more consistently in 2008. We’ll be back next season and will continue to “Strive for Excellence.” BE…Hungry!
