Gators turn up the heat in the swamp
Coach Jon HamsJanuary 10, 2008
The temperature was turned up on Thursday night as the Gator faithful filled the swamp to watch their team take on 8th ranked Lake of the Woods Bears. Those on hand watched the Gators play tenacious defense against a bigger Bears team, only allowing 14 points in the first half -- 6 of those coming in the final two minutes. At the same time the Bears played good enough defense to keep the Gators from running away with the game.
Both teams dialed up the offense in the second half, but the Gators played enough defense and knocked down enough shots to maintain a comfortable lead throughout most of the second half, resulting in a 54-42 win.
The Gators were again led by Anna Wicklund who scored her 5th straight double-double. Pitching in on the scoring were Liz Schenkey, Emily Bentow, Jessica Dvergsten, and Megan Johnson.
The Gators were back at it Saturday as they traveled across the Red to participate in the Grafton Spoilers Shoot Out.
Scoring:
Gators - Anna Wicklund 18, Elizabeth Schenkey 7, Emily Bentow 13, Hannah Berg 2, Jessica Dvergsten 8, Megan Johnson 6
Bears - Ashley Nelson 14, Jacque Edwards 2, Carla Johnson 10, Cassie Langrehr 2, Chelsea Poolman 8, Jessica Marken 2, Ashley Feldman 2, Amber Stavig 2
