The boys are back in town!
Mavis GonshorowskiThe boys are back in town! The Gator boys who played at the Twins Metrodome are back in town to tell about their awesome experiences.
Head Baseball Coach Todd Wensloff and Assistant Coach Dave Stanelle and 14 Gator baseball players headed south on Thursday, April 10.
Players making the adventuresome trip were: Cody Langaas, Tanner Pierce, Dustin Lorenson, Jake Wiskow, Brandon Peterson, Tyler Aune, Eli Jenson, Brandon Langaas, Allan Dostal, Jordan Holm, Brennan Kirkeide, Adam Balstad, Cole Christianson and Micah Erickson.
Mother Nature decided to give areas south of here one more taste of winter by delivering more snow, but that didn’t discourage the Gator coaches and players as well as many Gator fans from making the trip.
Coach Wensloff commented, “Other than dealing with the weather, we had a very good time. We ran into a lot of snow and slush at Little Falls. We had planned to stay overnight at St. Cloud, but decided to would be wiser to get closer to the Cities, so we stayed at Brooklyn City.”
Thanks to a Twins-sponsored promotion “Play Where the Pros Play” and the diligent work of Coach Wensloff in making a dream come true, the BGMR Gators faced Fosston in a seven-inning game which started at noon on Friday, April 11. Fosston came out ahead, 4 to 3.
The players found the distances on the playing field between the four bases and pitcher’s mound to be the same, however there is about 70 feet in difference between the Metrodome’s center field and that of the school-regulation size. That means the ball has to be whacked considerably farther to be called an over-the-fence homer.
Was the Twins scoreboard in operation? It sure was.
Allan Dostal said of his experience, “It was interesting on the way down because of the weather. I was kind of star-struck when we stepped out onto the field level. I couldn’t believe we were there!”
“It was overwhelming and exciting. It was a once-in-a lifetime experience; it was great! We could hear the fans in the stands real well,” Cody Langaas said.
“Lots of fun,” stated Eli Jenson. “A big playing area; great experience!”
Adam Balstad commented, “It was fun and I am only a sophomore so I might get to go back, but this was AWESOME!”
The BGMR Gators play their opening game Monday, April 14, at Kennedy. Good luck, Gators!!
