David A. Novacek, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Gonshorowski)
Novacek, was born on August 1, 1933 in Greenbush, MN.  David was
baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith in Leo, MN.   He
attended grade school at District 58 in Polonia Township and
graduated from Greenbush High School.  David enlisted the Army in
1953 and spent 13 months in Korea and served the rest of his military
time in Hawaii until his Honorable Discharge in 1955.  He then went
to work in Virginia, MN.  David married Marlys Anderson at Leo, MN on
April 23, 1960 and on June 14, 1961 their son Russell was born in
Virginia, MN.   In 1962 they moved to Minneapolis and lived there
until moving to Badger, MN in 1971 where David worked as a
Maintenance Engineer in the Badger High School until 1974.  They then
moved to Baker & Billings, MT where David continued his career with
the school systems from 1974 through May of 1980.  At this time they
moved to Lake Park, MN where David worked for the Lake Park High
School until his retirement in 1995.  Marlys passed away in 2004 and
David continued to make his home in Lake Park where he passed away on
Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the age of 79 years, 3 months, and 6
days.
David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be
greatly missed by all.  His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing,
golfing and playing cards.
He was a past member of St. Aloysius Catholic church in Leo, MN. and
an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in Lake Park.
He was an honorary life time member of the Knights of Columbus in the
3rd Degree in Detroit Lakes and a member of the 4th Degree in
Moorhead, MN.  He was also a life time member of the VFW, Post #5115
in Ulen, MN and the American Legion Post #181 in Lake Park, MN.
David is survived by his son Russell (Kris), granddaughter Ashley
(TJ) Medrud, grandson Eric Novacek, great granddaughter Dakota Rose
Medrud, and great grandson Roman Joseph Medrud, all of West Fargo,
ND.,  brothers: Daniel and Joseph (Darlene) Novacek of Greenbush,
MN., sister: Emelia Novacek of Warren, MN., along with many nieces,
nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marlys, daughters Lynn Marie and
Jena Marie, parents Joseph and Josephine, brothers: Ernest, Norbert,
and Jerome, sisters: Theresa, Leona,Christine, and Bernadette.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00am, Tuesday, November 13,
2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush, MN with Fr.
Bob Laplante presiding.  Special Music for the ceremony was provided
by Jeanne Novacek and Helen Lunos.  Joann Bertilrud, Geri Nubson, and
Theresa Novacek were Eucharistic Ministers and Ethan and Ely Novacek
were Altar Servers.  Readers were Conrad Novacek and Josephine Reese
and Gary and Sharri Villard were Gift Bearers.  David’s Casket
Bearers were Eric John Novacek, Ashley Medrud, Tami Schoede, Jennifer
Bushee, Stacey Penas, Sherri Waage while his Honorary Bearers were
all of those in attendance of the ceremony.  The 4th Degree Knights
of Columbus Crookston Assembly acted as an Honor Guard and Military
Honors were accorded by the Greenbush American Legion Post #88.
Visitation was held after 6:00pm, Monday, at the church with a Prayer
Service at 7:00pm and Rosary to follow led by the Knights of
Columbus.  Visitation was also held one hour prior to services at the
church.
Interment was held at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Leo, MN.
following services.
