Roger L. Stromgren, 69, Mandan, died April 15, 2010 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with Rev. Lee Herberg officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW Post 707 and American Legion Post 40.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, April 19 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Roger was born September 13, 1940 in Greenbush, MN to Carl and Ruby (Souder) Stromgren. He grew up on a farm near Lake Bronson, MN and attended school there. Roger served in the US Air Force from February 1958 to February 1962. On August 4, 1961 he married Janet Mortenson in Little Rock, AR. They were blessed with two daughters, Kimberly Ann and Lisa Marie. Roger worked 26 years for NCR (National Cash Register Company) as a service technician in Fargo, Dickinson, and Bismarck. He and his family moved to Mandan in 1977. Roger retired from NCR in 1993. Following his retirement, Roger did some handyman work. He was proud to have built the big chair and wheelbarrow used at Papa’s Pumpkin Patch. An inventive and talented handyman, he liked to tinker in his garage, making various things. He also liked to fish, hunt, and garden, and planted a variety of fruit trees and bushes. Roger was a member of First Lutheran Church in Mandan and the Bismarck Mandan Elks. A kind and creative man, this loving husband, father, and grandfather will be missed by all who knew him.
Blessed to have shared his life is his wife of 48 years, Janet Stromgren; daughters, Kim Speckmann (fiancé Lynn Wolf) and Lisa (Brad) Leingang, all of Mandan; three grandchildren, Isaiah and Gabriel Leingang and Karlee Wolf; sister, Clarice Hanson, Hallock, MN; brothers, Ronald (Marie), Murfreesboro, TN, and Wayne (Laurie) Strandquist, MN; sisters-in-law, Gula Stromgren, Strandquist, MN, Lois (Derald) Timm, St. Joseph, MN, and Lenny (Archie) Nelson, Granville, ND; brother-in-law, Jerald (Jeanne) Mortenson, Prior Lake, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Arlene Clark; brother, Reuben Stromgren; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Julia Mortenson; sister-in-law, Shirley Stromgren; and brothers-in-law, Rodney Hanson, Joe Clark, and George Mortenson.
