John Collins, 95

John Collins, 95, of Lake Bronson, Minnesota passed away on Monday,
May 10th at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock,
Minnesota.  John was born October 27, 1914 east of Lake Bronson to
Art and Teresa (Rice) Collins.  He grew up on the family farm and
attended country school.  On September 9, 1941 he enlisted in the
U.S. Army.  John served as a corporal in the  Guadalcanal Campaign of
1942 and was discharged on July 9, 1945.  After returning home he
began working for U.S. Steel on the iron ore ships.  He retired after
spending 30 years on the Great Lakes.  
    He is survived by nieces and nephews.  John was preceded in death by
a sister, Marie Gillie; and brothers, Earl-Ambrose, Clifford and
    Graveside services are scheduled for Monday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m.
in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson.  Pastor Kathy Levenhagen,
presiding.  Military honors will be accorded by the Halma-Lake
Bronson American Legion.  Arrangements are with the Austin-Hughes
Funeral Home in Hallock.
