Rubye Dallum, 95

Rubye Dallum, 95, of East Grand Forks, MN died on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND.

Rubye (Elna Ruby Elenora) was born on July 11, 1914 in Radium, MN to Swedish immigrant parents, John and Ellen (Erickson) Johnson.  Her father died when she was 18 months old.  Ruby moved with her mother and two older sisters to a farmstead north of Alverado, MN.  When she was 6 years old her mother married Willie Palm and she was raised by a very kind step-father.  She attended North Star Country School, Alvarado and school in Warren, MN.  Rubye was united in marriage to Orville Dallum on April 27, 1932 at the Bethel Lutheran Church,Greenbush, MN.  They lived in Badger, Alvarado, Chicago, IL, and Oslo, MN prior to moving to East Grand Forks in 1943.  Orville was a General Contractor and Rubye was a Homemaker.  They also enjoyed their lake cottage at Big Floyd Lake near Detroit Lakes, MN.  In 1969 they moved to AZ where Orville died unexpectedly on Sept. 10, 1969 in Scottsdale.  She and son, Barry, stayed in AZ and Rubye was employed at Lady Mardens Fashions and later Diamonds Dept. Store.  Rubye became a member of the First Baptist Church of Phoenix. In 1988 she moved to Greater Grand Forks to be closer to family and friends, then would spend some winter time in Arizona.  Rubye will be lovingly remembered by her children:  Rheta Johnson of Sun City, AZ,  Dean (Joanne) Dallum of Sun City, AZ, Darrell Dallum of Grand Forks, Barry (Sharon) Dallum of Frankfort, IL;  8 grandchildren:  Mark, Dianne, Michael, Holly, Corey, Brooke, Jason and Kristi;  13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.  Rubye was preceded in death by her parents;  step-father, Willie Palm;  husband, Orville;  daughter, Carmen, May, 1988;  2 sisters, Linnea and Margaret, 1 brother, Iner Palm and son-in-law Harold Johnson

The Casket Bearers for Rubye are Kenny Palm, Allyn Knutson, Bernie Dallum, David Behl, Lew Modahl, Alan Aas, Floyd Johnson and Wendell Sands.

 

Services:  2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Grace Baptist Church, Grand Forks, ND.

 

Visitation:  one hour before the funeral at the church. 

 

Burial:  Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
