Alice Christine Hedlund, 88 of Roseau, MN died on Saturday June 26, 2010 at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, MN. She was born March 1, 1922 in Greenbush, MN to Olaf and Johannah (Hazelquist) Hedman. Alice attended a country school in Greenbush, MN and married her military sweetheart, Martin E. Hedlund on April 19, 1945. They made their home on a farm in Stafford Township where they raised their children.
Alice and Martin had seven children. Surviving children include; JoAnn (Bob) Bell of Fulton, Maryland; Jeannette Hedlund of Duluth, MN; Joyce (Phil) Olson of Baudette, MN; June (Roland) Wensloff of Roseau, MN; and Robert (Yvonne) Hedlund of Strathcona, MN.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Andrew and Jonathan Bell; Tony, Allan, Kevin, and Brian Olson; Tammy Gjovik, Lisa Dunham, Tony Wensloff and Kelly Wensloff; Nathaniel, Amanda, and Garrett Hedlund; her step-grandchildren, Jennifer Nelson and Cody Nelson. Alice was also survived by her twenty great-grandchildren.
Alice enjoyed many things in life including Superman, a marble game that has been enjoyed for four generations, flowers, pets, and shopping especially for the grandkids. She was a great baker and famous for her abundant supply of cookies, caramel rolls and a host of many other goodies. Many grandkids of all ages spent ample time playing many card games especially Crazy Eight’s. She also enjoyed playing many games of solitaire.
Her laughter, smile and presence will be missed by all who knew her.
Alice was preceded in death by her soul mate and husband of 52 years, Martin; her son, Emil; daughter, Janice; her siblings, Edwin Hedman, Edna Hiller, Henry Hedman, Joan Steinfeldt, Jennie Kley, Elenor Sundgren, Art Seabloom, and great-granddaughter, Kassandra Dunham.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday July 2, 2010 at the Bethel Stafford Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be Thursday July 1, 2010 from 5-8 PM with a 7:30 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Chapel of Roseau, MN and one hour prior to funeral service at the church.
Interment will be at the Bethel Stafford Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
