Inga Caroline Mattson, 92

Inga Caroline Mattson, 92, died at the Kittson Memorial Health Care
Center on July 3, 2010.
Inga Forsberg was born June 3, 1918, on a farm near Gully, MN to
Andrew and Andrea Forsberg. Inga had two sisters, Della and Agnes
and one younger brother Arnold. After completing her early
education, Inga attended high school in Fosston and then went to
Aaker’s Business College in East Grand Forks.
She got her first full-time job at the Keine Store in Kennedy. She
always said that Frank Keine hired her because she could talk a
little “Swede” to the customers. She met her husband Casper in
Kennedy and they were married in 1939. Casper ran a Standard Oil
station in Kennedy for a time. They moved to Burbank, CA in 1941
along with baby Larry, as Casper had a job at the Lockheed Aircraft
plant during World War II. Another son, Robert was born in 1943.
After the war, they returned to Minnesota, found a home in
Minneapolis and ran a ceramics business. They moved to Bemidji in
1952. Casper ran a new Skelly Oil station in Bemidji. Inga was
active in the local Lutheran Church and kept her family well and
happy.
In 1954, Hallock became their new home. Inga had a job for several
years at the Farmer’s Store. In 1958, she and Casper bought the
Coast to Coast store. They sold that business and bought the Stroom
Shoe Store in about 1962. They sold shoes there until they both
retired from active business in 1974
Retirement gave them time for a place by the Baudette Golf Course,
next to the Rainy River. They enjoyed the company of friends in both
Hallock and Baudette.
Inga was active in Grace Lutheran Church, and the Hallock Golf
Course. She attended many Ladies golf events. She participated in
many activities at the church. She was very dedicated to her family.
