LeRoy Edgar Swenson, 75
LeRoy Edgar Swenson, 75, of Moorhead, formerly of Kennedy, MN passed
away on July 6th, 2010 at Meritcare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
LeRoy was born on February 19, 1935 in Skane Township, Kittson County
Minnesota, to Edgar and Kathryn (Stockman) Swenson.
He attended Kennedy High School and graduated in 1953. On August 8th,
1953, he married Barbara Costin of Hallock, Minnesota.
They resided on the Swenson family farm west of Kennedy before moving
into Kennedy in 1965. There he worked for the city of Kennedy and was
a clerk at the Kennedy Post Office. LeRoy later managed the North
Kittson Rural Water System and was postmaster in both Donaldson and
Kennedy, before retiring in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing,
archery, woodworking, and helping Barb with her antique business.
LeRoy took up the game of golf when he and Brarb wintered in Florida.
In 2007, they moved to Moorhead, where he loved living on the golf
course.
LeRoy was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, and was very proud
of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His loving
hugs will be missed by all.
LeRoy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; his daughter,
Robin (David) Oestreich of Fargo; daughter-in-law Pam Swenson of
Crookston, sons Chris (Pam) Swenson of Kennedy, and Kevin (Connie)
Swenson of Hallock. His grandchildren are Brett (Kendra) Oestreich,
Alex (Lexi) Oestreich, Heidi (Ben) Preisler, Jeremy (Tiffany)
Swenson, Brooke (Steve) Zabel, Brady Swenson, Sean Swenson, Kendrah
Goldstrand, Kristyne (Jeff) Duray, Katelyn Swenson, and Tanner
Swenson. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Anja and Markus
Preisler, Evan Zabel, Jesse, Gracie and Glorie Goldstrand and Riley
and Lily Duray. He was preceded in death by his parents and his
son, Scott.
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, July 11th, 2010 at 2:00
p.m. in Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy, Minnesota. Pastor Kathy
Levenhagen; special music, Charles & Patti Swanson; Donald and Kris
Thorlacius; and Dwight Nelson. Casket bearers will be Jeremy Swenson,
Brett Oestreich, Alex Oestreich, Brady Swenson, Sean Swenson and
Tanner Swenson. Honorary casket bearers will be LeRoy’s
granddaughters and great grandchildren. Visitation will be at the
Austin-Hughes Funeral Home in Hallock, Minnesota on Saturday evening
from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
