Melford “Shorty” Ecklund, 98

Melford “Shorty” Ecklund, 98, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at
Kittson Memorial Hospital in Hallock on Friday, July 23rd, 2010.
Melford Edwin Ecklund was born in Hallock on October 17, 1911, the
son of Irvin and Alma (Wixsten) Ecklund.  He grew up in Kittson
County and attended Riverside Country School.  Shorty worked as a
farm hand and for Pembina Coach before taking a job with the Great
Northern Railroad in 1942.  He married Eleanor Bouvette at Halma,
Minnesota  in May of 1939.  Shorty retired from the railroad in 1974.
He enjoyed hunting and trapped for many years.  Shorty was a member
of the First Presbyterian Church, the Hallock Eagles Club and was a
volunteer fireman.  
    Family members include two daughters, Shirley Guevara, Minneapolis
and Patsy (Wayne) Jacobson, Vancouver, WA; a stepdaughter, Dolly of
Minneapolis; six grandchildren, Richard, Cheryl, Lisa, Donald,
Douglas and Mershion; a brother, Lawrence; and special friend, Pam
Anderson.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar and twin
brothers, Alfred and Stanley; and two sisters, Helen and Florence.    
    Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 at
11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church at Hallock.  Interment
will be in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson, Minnesota.  Visitation
will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service on
Wednesday.   Rev. Adam Copeland, presiding; Kristi Morrison, organist
and Lyndon Johnson, soloist.  Casket bearers will be Donald Krein,
Douglas Brown, Dan Maloney and Larry Nelson.  Arrangements are  with
the Austin-Hughes Funeral Home of  Hallock.
