Ann H. (Straus) Gerdes, 95

Ann H. (Straus) Gerdes, 95 of Grand Forks, ND passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 in Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks.
 
Ann Helen Vonasek, was born on May 6, 1915 on the family farm in Northland Township in Minnesota the daughter of James and Emily (Gust) Vonasek.  She was raised in Northland Townshipand attended the local rural school.  Upon the completion of her education, she worked on several farms in the area doing cooking and sewing.  Ann married William Straus on November 29, 1941.  Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in Keystone Township, Minnesota.  William preceded her in death on May 21, 1966.  Ann continued living on the farm until moving toGrand Island, NE.  Ann married Lawrence Gerdes on January of 1972. Lawrence preceded her in death on February of 1988.  In 1990, she returned to Grand Forks where she resided until her death. Ann was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Marquette 677. Her hobbies (although she was legally blind) included baking pies, cakes and cookies for her family and friends.
 
Left to mourn her are, her daughter, Dorothy (Bob) Jerik, East Grand Forks, MN; a son, David (Rita) Straus, Grand Forks, ND;  brothers, Bill, Lawrence (Darlene), Vernon, Delbert (Alvina); a sister, Frances (Marvin) Chandler; a brother-in-law, Robert Useldinger; grandchildren, Kevin (Sheila) Jerik, Kim (David) Wasylow, Keith (Brenda) Jerik, Ken (Terri) Jerik, Kristi (Dwight) Gerszewski, Jenni (Jim) Barta, Michael (Hovie) Straus, Brandy Danks, Corey Danks; 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by, her husbands, William and Lawrence, her parents, step mother, Louise, an infant daughter, Mary Ann, brothers, Ed and John, a sister, Angela Useldinger, sisters-in-law, Maxine Vonasek, and Evelyn Vonasek.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2010 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND
Visitation:  1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday with a 4:00 p.m. vigil service in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel.  A 1:30 p.m. rosary service will be led by the Catholic Daughters of America, Marquette Court 677.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Monday.
Burial: Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Tabor, MN.
