James H. Hotten, 88

James H. Hotten, 88, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away on Thursday,
August 19th, 2010 at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in
Hallock.  Jim was born June 12, 1922 at Wales, North Dakota the son
of John and Nellie (Fischer) Hotten.  He graduated from Wales High
School in 1940 and attended UND for training as a shipfitter.  On
July 23, 1943 he entered the U.S. Army, becoming a sergeant in the
anti-tank company of the 413th Infantry. Jim served in northern
France, the Rhineland and central Europe.  He returned home in
December of 1945 and began working at the elevator in Wales. Jim
moved to Hallock in 1947.  On October 27, 1949 he was united in
marriage to Mona Sugden. Jim managed at several area elevators
including those in  Hallock, Lancaster and Argyle.   He also worked
at the Hallock Municipal Liquor Store and later became a rural mail
carrier, retiring from the postal service in 1987.  Jim was an avid
golfer and played many of the area courses. He found a way to play
golf year round when he and Mona began wintering in Texas.  When they
no longer traveled south you could find Jim playing cards at the
Station.  He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the
Hallock Eagles and was an active member of the Hallock American
Legion Post #63.  Every spring Jim and Mona would place the veterans
flags at Greenwood Cemetery prior to Memorial Day.  
    He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mona; and many neices and
nephews.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers,
Joseph, Richard and Jerome; and a sister, Ruth Haaven.
    Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, August 24th, 2010 at
10:30 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hallock.  Interment will
be in Greenwood Cemetery.  Msgr. David Baumgartner, presiding;
Sharlene Klegstad, organist and Sue Albrecht, soloist.  Honorary
casket bearers will be Ernie Klegstad, David Fertig, Pete Dziengel,
Tom Hughes, Andy Lyberg and Bill Pemberton.  Military honors will be
accorded by Hallock American Legion Post #63.  Visitation will be
held at the Austin-Hughes Funeral Home in Hallock on Monday from 6 to
8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
