Delbert Floyd “Del”Dvergsten, 80

Delbert F. Dvergsten, 80, of Kansas City, MO passed away, after battling cancer, on August 25, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House, with his wife and daughter at his side.  Visitation was at 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 30 at the First Lutheran Church, 6400 State Line Rd, Mission Hills, KS followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.  Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Dave Domke, Roger Dvergsten, Dwight Kirkeide, Mike Kirkeide, Kris Feldkamp, Denny Dvergsten, Paul Kirkeide, and Alex Feldkamp.
Del was born February 11, 1930 in Greenbush, MN, the son of Melvin and Della Dvergsten.  Del served in the United States Army Artillery during the Korean Conflict and was awarded three Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal.  He was discharged November 19, 1953 at the rank of Sergeant.  Del married Ardith Kirkeide in Greenbush, MN on April 27, 1957.  Del worked for Amoco Oil Company for 34 years.  His work took Del and Ardith to Minneapolis, Kansas City and Chicago.  He was a member of American Legion Post #88 and was a lifetime member of  the V.F.W.  Following his retirement in 1990, they moved back to Kansas  City to be near their children. ?During their retirement, Del and Ardith spent 18 years wintering in Arizona.  They spent the majority of the time at Lake Havasu City.
Del was preceeded in death by his parents; son, Darwin; brother Donnie.  He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ardith; daughter, Dee of Kansas City, MO; daughter in-law Anne of Raymore, MO; two grandchildren, Katie and Dustan; three brothers, Manvil and wife Beatrice, Arvid and wife Lois, Gerald and wife Florence; and sister in-law, Vivian – all of Greenbush, MN; and numberous members of his extended family.  Del enjoyed playing cards, visiting friends/family and being with his grandchildren.  He will be missed by many.  Condolences
