Bernice Genevieve Germundson, the daughter of the late Selmer and Christine (Heieie) Anderson, was born on October 27, 1923, in Arveson Township of Kittson County, near Karlstad, MN. She was baptized, confirmed and was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church of Karlstad. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the Karlstad community and graduated from Karlstad High School in 1941. She was employed in Minneapolis for 4 years following graduation and returned to Karlstad where she worked at the former Winjum Clothing Store. On October 4, 1947, Bernice was united in marriage to Kenneth Germundson at the Hegland Lutheran Church near Karlstad. The couple has since made their home in Karlstad. Bernice was employed at the former Mar-Pal Market in Karlstad for several years and at Fjosne’s Grocery Store, as well. She was a Sunday School Teacher and very active in the First Lutheran Church Choir for many years, was presently serving on the church council and was active in Ladies Aid. She also was a volunteer at the Karlstad Memorial Healthcare Center in Karlstad and was a member of the former Karlstad Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Foremost, she was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandma. Bernice passed away at the Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls on Sunday evening, October 10, 2010, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 13 days.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; one son: Sidney, of Karlstad; two daughters: Beryl, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, and Anita, of Thief River Falls; one granddaughter: Lynn, also of Thief River Falls; one sister: Marion Mattson, of Karlstad; one brother: Allen (Marian) Anderson, of Belgrade, MN.; in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Orville and his wife, Jane, her daughter-in-law: Lexi., and brother-in-law: Arnold Mattson.
