Thelma Viola Rinde, 98
Thelma Viola Rinde was born on May 11, 1912, five miles north of Badger, to Jalmer and Caroline (Olson) Wellen and was raised in Badger and attended town school and country school north of Badger.
Thelma married Oscar Rinde on February 27, 1930 in Roseau. They farmed in Moose Township north of Badger until retiring in 1972 when they moved into Badger. Oscar passed away on November 20, 1975 and Thelma continued to live in Badger. In December of 1982 she moved in to the newly constructed Badger Creek Apartments and lived there until moving to the Greenleaf Assisted Living in Thief River Falls in February of 2006 and then to the Thief River Care Center in July of 2010.
As a young girl she worked as a waitress in Roseau and International Falls, MN. She also worked at Fox Plastics in the late 70’s. Thelma was a member of the Badger Senior Citizen Group and did many years of volunteer work with the Senior Meals. She was a member of the Roselund Lutheran Church and was confirmed there on July 25, 1926 and was also a member of the first Ladies Aid of Roselund formed on August 10, 1942.
She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, doing word-search puzzles, playing Bingo and still enjoyed baking cookies, cakes and bread at age 93. Thelma always had a warm and ready smile and will be remembered for her quiet nature and thoughtfulness to care for others first.
Thelma is survived by two sisters, Ruby Hukee of Badger, MN and Luella Mohagen of Grafton, N.D.; one son, George (Jan) Rinde of Badger, MN; three daughters, Doris (Charles) Jerep and Ruby Webber both of Carpinteria, CA, and Audrey Seter of Thief River Falls, MN; 8 grandchildren,10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; eight brothers, Arnold, Jesse, Louie, Harry, Roy, Lloyd, Kenneth and George.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, November 9th from 5-7 P.M. and a devotional service at 7:00 P.M. at Helgeson’s and also one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Roselund Cemetery in Badger, MN.
