Kenneth Berg, 88, of Thief River Falls, MN died on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM on Friday at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Lancaster, MN. A gathering for friends will follow the burial at Sion Lutheran Church in Lancaster.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service inThief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday at the church.
Kenneth Dale Berg was born on February 7, 1922 in Eveleth, MN the son of Alfred and Julia (Sjostrand) Berg. At an early age, the family moved to Lake Bronson, MN and Kenneth was confirmed at the Mission Covenant Church in Lancaster, MN. He attended the East Cannon TownshipSchool and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1940.
Kenneth served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was Honorably Discharged and returned to Lake Bronson to farm with his family.
On February 14, 1948 Kenneth was united in marriage to Evelyn Lindquist at the Sion Lutheran Church in Lancaster, MN. They made their home on the farm in rural Lake Bronson where they raised Hereford cattle, chickens and small grains.
They moved to Thief River Falls, MN in the early 1960’s. Kenneth went into partnership with Elwood Ehrenstrom and together they built several E & B Carwashes. Kenneth commercially developed land along Highway 59 on the south edge of Thief River Falls. Included in a list of partners is a 30 year partner and friendship with Bob Pulkrabek, Cam Saunders and Wally Sparby. He developed residential property in several areas inThief River Falls and also developed farmland in the Goodridge and Grygla areas.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Kenneth was awarded the Thief River Falls Entrepreneur Of The Year in 2000.
In his early years Kenneth enjoyed trapping. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He traveled 15 times to Alaska to fish; as a couple they traveled to Europe, the Scandinavian countries, New Zealand, Fiji Islands, Australia, Hawaii as well as throughout North America. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Lake Of The Woods and at his hunting camp at Lake Bronson.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lions Club, American Legion Post, Eagle’s Club, and Farmers Union in Lake Bronson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn of Thief River Falls; foster brother, Jack (Sharon) Israelson of Bemidji, MN; sisters-in-law, Marian Horan of Sun City West, AZ and Lois (Harvey) Cederholm of Waite Park, MN and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
