It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Harold L. Thortsen. He passed away on December 17, 2010 at the Warroad Senior Living Center in Warroad at the age of 80.
Left to mourn his passing are his children, Barbara (Lee) Delorme, Nancy Peterson, Dale (Krisann) and Connie (Bradley) Cook, and lifetime friend, Theowen Thortsen; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and his youngest brother, Dale (Linda). He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Helma Thortsen; brothers, Orvin, Jack and Rodney and sisters, Delores (Morris) Kannard, Ardel (Glen) Bruce and DeEtta (Duane) Comstock.
Harold was born in Ross, MN on July 4, 1930. He started working for a living at the young age of 13. He served two tours of duty in the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He spent his entire working career in the trucking industry, the majority of which was spent as a leased owner/operator for North Star Transport.
Throughout his life, Harold enjoyed his many family gatherings. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Lake of the Woods area. He took great pleasure in watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sporting events.
Special thanks to the staff at the Warroad Senior Living Center. The special care and attention he received for the last nine months was very much appreciated.
A graveside service will be held in the Summer of 2011 at the Norland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
