James “Jim” LeTexier, 76

James “Jim” LeTexier, 76, of East Grand Forks, MN died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born the son of Frank and Lena (Martineau) LeTexier on February 15, 1934 in Backoo, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Church, in LeRoy, ND.   Jim also grew up and attended school in LeRoy. He entered the US Army in 1954 to 1956. He was united in marriage to Bev Hughes on November 25, 1955 in Olympia, WA. Jim worked at the Neche, ND Elevator. In 1962 Jim was called back to active duty in the US Army and was stationed in Germany until he returned home. Jim attended electrical school in Winnipeg, Canada. He worked for Motor Coach in Pembina, ND. In 1968 they moved to Grand Forks. Jim worked for Smith Construction until his retirement in 1974. Jim had a strong commitment to the American Legion organizations. He served two terms as the East Grand Forks American Legion Post 157 Commander, one term as the 9th District Commander and was elected as the Minnesota American Legion Department Commander from 1990-1991.  Jim was also a member of ANIVICUS.  Jim was past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Christ the King Council #5341.  Jim was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church community.  Jim served as a Eucharistic Minister and also served as a past president of the Sacred Heart athletic association.

Jim is survived by his wife: Bev LeTexier, East Grand Forks, MN; children: Mark (Ruth), East Grand Forks, MN, James A. (Judeth), Honolulu, HI, Marty (Rebecca), Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry (Kellie), Bremerton, WA, Jenny, East Grand Forks, MN and Monty (Micki), Basin, MT; 18 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother: Richard (Jan), East Grand Forks, MN; sisters: Margaret Galle, Park Rapids, MN, Ramona Latraille, Grafton, ND, Louise (John) Gariepy, St. Paul, MN, Joyce Ann (Joe) Sturbisky, Bowmanville, ON, Canada, and Dorothy Mae (LaVerne) Scholler, Cavalier, ND. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Edward, Thomas and Gene; sisters: Beatrice and Bernice; and granddaughter: Tiffany.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Bev and Jim LeTexier Sacred Heart Scholarship Fund. Military Honors will be conducted by the East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157, the East Grand Forks VFW Post #3817 and the ND National Guard.


Services:  11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.


Visitation: Monday, January 10, 2011 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN and 1 hour before services at the church.


Burial:  Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN.
