A funeral Service for Johnnie Svir of Roseau and formerly of Badger will be held on Wednesday, February 9, at the Badger Creek Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be on Tuesday at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau from 6-8 p.m. with a devotional service at 7:00 p.m., and also one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
John Anton Svir was born March 11, 1934 to Edward Svir and Annie Rachel Svir. John was raised on family farm south of Badger.
On December 15, he married Violet Prefek lived and worked family farm until 1970 when his health forced him to quit farming. They moved to Badger in 1972 where they raised their family of three daughters, Kathy, Collen, and Karen. John worked for Land O’ Lakes until he retired in 1996.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, riding ATV, spending time with family, and in later years helping his friends on their farms. He was a practical joker and enjoyed playing cards. He served on the Badger Fire Department for 21 years.
Johnnie Svir passed away on Friday, February 4 at LifeCare Manor in Roseau. He was 76 years old.
He is survived by his wife Violet of Roseau, daughters, Kathy (Robert) Carnegie of Badger, Collen (Paul) Omdahl of Thief River Falls, and Karen (Brett) Dole of Skime; grandchildren, Andrew and Jessica Appel, and one great-granddaughter, Lilian Violet Booen; sisters Barbara McFarlane of Roseau, Vivian Peterson of Badger, Rose (John) Massey of Woodbridge, VA, Agnes (Harold) Johnson of Port Lucie, FL; brother, Godfred Sr. Of Thief River Falls; and one sister-in-law, Irene Svir of Badger. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents; brother Jerry; grandson Jonathan Lockhart; sisters-in-law Beatrice Svir, Elsie Nagy, and Theresa Kurcuz; brothers-in-law Clarence Peterson, Joe Buckler, Russell McFarlane, Robert Fox, and Mike Prefek.
